TOPIC:  BE A THANKFUL BENEFICIARY OF GRACE.  MONDAY SEPTEMBER 4
TEXT:  LUKE 17:11-19
KEY VERSE: “O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good: because His mercy endureth for ever.” (Psalm 118:1).

It is common among men to show ingratitude or un-thankfulness over the kindness they receive in life. This is because of their impure heart and emptiness of the life of God in them. But it should be a different thing with believers who do have the mind of Christ. God commands true Christians to be thankful to God for everything and to their fellow men for the kindness they receive. We shall consider three cases in scripture where men manifested ingratitude according to their nature.

Case 1: The Amorites ill-treated David's messengers of love. David had sent men to comfort the new king of Amorites over the death of his father, who had been good to David. This was a great act of love. But the king of the Amorites treated them very badly. What an evil response to an act of pure love! What was responsible for this ingratitude? (i) The darkness of heathenism (ii) Absence of true love among them (iii) Impure minds (iv) Pride (v) Suspicion and misinterpretation of good gesture.

Lesson: Believers must beware not to display the spirit of un-thankfulness towards the love and kindness they receive.

Case 2: Ten lepers pleaded with Jesus to heal them. Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priest. On the way, they were healed. One returned to give thanks. The others did not. Jesus wondered at their ingratitude. What was responsible for this? (i) They had unthankful hearts due to the presence of sin. (ii) May be, they were unthankful by tradition. (iii) Pride of having right to healing as Israelites. (iv) They were more interested in their health than the healer. (v) They did not think deeply.

Case 3: Jesus healed the maniac of Gadara. The demons entered into pigs feeding nearby and they all were drowned in the sea. The man became perfectly well, but the Gadarenes asked Jesus to leave their coast. What ingratitude! What contempt against God! What was responsible for this? (i) They had no empathy for the afflicted man. (ii) They valued monetary value of pigs more than the priceless value of human soul. (iv)They had no understanding of the person of Jesus. (iii) They valued material things above the spiritual. (v) They had a wrong understanding of the implication of Christ's ministry. (vi) They loved darkness rather than light.

Learn to say “Thank you” to God and to that man or woman that has been good to you. This is your duty for all the kindness you enjoy.

Thought for the Day:  An unthankful person blocks the road for future favour.
Song for the Day: Thank you, thank you Lord (2x) … for everything you have done.
Bible reading for the day: Proverbs 5-6; 1 Corinthians 14:1-20

Them That Sin, Rebuke Before All

God's blessing shall be following you continually for taking the time to study. Them That Sin, Rebuke Before All   Monday 24th March Text: 1 Timothy 5: 19-22 Key verse: Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. 1 Timothy 5:20 God wants you to avoid doing evil while saying you want to go to heaven. You may be a member of a worldly church and be saying, “It is my tribal church; if I leave them, they will be angry. I do not want them to be angry.” Is it God you want to make angry by your compromise? You will see the anger of God indeed. It is through the word that you perfect the people, and as a result, the Bible says, “Thou shalt not suffer sin upon your brother. Thou shall reprove him.” Your brother or sister has done a bad thing, and you do not bother. You leave them in their sins. They may do the same to other people. The Lord says, “Correct them.” Do not allow sin to be in them because sin will take them to hell. The Bible says, “Them that sin, rebuke befo...

The local church should teach and train her members on scriptural fasting. Believers need to know that the Lord expects...

The Testimony Of Jesus Is Spirit Of Prophecy.

God's blessings will continually accompany you for dedicating time to your studies. The Testimony Of Jesus Is Spirit Of Prophecy.  Monday 10th November  Text: Jude 1: 2-5 Key verse: Jude 1: 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. The faith of Jesus has already been delivered and it is written in the scriptures. Whatever prophecies, revelations or dreams that comes must not be contrary to the standard in the scripture. They must speak the same thing. The testimony of Jesus is spirit of prophecy. Every prophecy or revelation must honour Jesus and must be according to the written word. Even where they are new things, they must not contradict because the Bible is a summary of the things Jesus did. The Bible cannot contain all things. It must be according to what the scripture has already signified, ...
