THE IMPORTANCE OF DOWRY PAYMENT WEDNESDAY MAY 24 TEXT: GENESIS 34: 8 – 12 Key Verse: “And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give” Genesis 34: 11 Once parental consent has been released upon you and your fiancée, marriage can take place after courtship and other formalities; dowry can be paid later. Sometimes dowry is not required. So, if consent has been given, and you are together as husband and wife after following due process, then you can come and pay later when you have. Don’t say later, I didn’t pay your dowry, so go back to your father’s house. The father has released her, so she’s released, dowry or no dowry. All that is required is to pay later because you married her on credit. It’s like, you bought a car on credit, it became yours and you are using the car and it is getting old now, and it has developed some noise and you say you want to return the car, who are you returning it to? It is the payment of the money that remains. You got the woman and now she’s aging and children everywhere and you say you want to return her, to who? Check your marriage, is there parental consent, have they released that woman to you truly? Maybe you eloped before but your in-laws have even visited, prayed and blessed you in the house, you ran away before but he forgave you and said I have forgiven you, I want my daughter to marry, stay together any time you are ready for dowry payment you can come.
