DAILY DEVOTIONAL BY PASTOR PAUL RIKA INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR.
DATE: FRIDAY OCTOBER 30, 2026.
TOPIC: MARY; THE YOUTH THAT LOVED THE WORD OF GOD
TEXT: LUKE 10:38–42
38. “Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
40. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42. But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
KEY VERSE: LUKE 10:42 “But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Mary and Martha were the sisters of Lazarus, the man that died and was raised from the dead after four days by the Lord Jesus. The bible makes us understand that the Lord Jesus Christ loved this family so much that He came to visit one day. Martha spent time preparing food in the kitchen, while Mary listened to the word at the Master’s feet.
Many people today are carried away by issues that are not eternally rewarding and prefer to go for worldly things that will not last. There are so many things that tend to occupy our time and energy in the service of our Lord Jesus, but one thing is needful; the word. Many Christians even spend so much time praying for hours and days without studying the word of God.
But remember today that one thing is needful; the word of God. The word of God is the life of God. It is the breath that keeps a believer going. It is the spiritual weapon that the devil can never overcome. It is the foundation and the lifeline of a believer. It is the wisdom of God to see good success and excellence in life and ministry.
The word has been from the beginning and will be till everlasting. On it hang all the miracles, signs, and wonders. Forever the word is settled in heaven. It is sure and steadfast. It is the life of God that keeps a believer moving on in the face of persecutions, temptations, and afflictions.
It will never fail. It will never change. It will never go faint, and the power will never fade. Surely, forever Thy word is settled in heaven. It is time we spend quality time in the word, in fellowship, and in our devotion. It will do great things in our spiritual, physical and social life.
Thought for the day: In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.
Song for the day: It is the word of God that sets me free.
Bible reading for the day: Luke 21-22
