DAILY DEVOTIONAL BY PASTOR PAUL RIKA INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR.
DATE: THURSDAY OCTOBER 29, 2026.
TOPIC: GET GOD'S DIRECTION CLEAR IN YOUR SPIRIT BEFORE YOU ACT.
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 30:7- 8, 18-19
7. “And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
8. And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And He answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
18. And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.
19. And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.”
KEY VERSE: 1 SAMUEL 30:8 And David inquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And He answered him, Pursue: for thou shall surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
Do not be too quick in making decisions that affect your life. You need to get a clear guidance from the Lord first. Develop your spirit so you can discern God’s plan for your life. You need to take enough time to pray until you have the Lord’s direction clear in your spirit.
The trouble with some Christians is that when they receive direction about God’s plan for their lives, they mix that revelation with their own feelings and thought. They follow their thoughts and miss God’s mind on the matter. If the plan doesn’t turn out right, they get confused, wondering if they ever really heard from God.
The only way you can keep that from happening is to remain in the presence of God to sift out your human emotions and thoughts and lay them on the altar before God. Then pray and meditate on the word until you hear from the Lord in your spirit and know what to do.
Realize that God’s thoughts are higher than man’s thoughts ( Isaiah 55: 9) and it is in God’s word that you find His thoughts. That is why meditating and feeding constantly on God’s word renews your mind so your mind can come into agreement with your spirit. The voice that speaks to you in the word is the same voice that leads you by your spirit.
Being in the word therefore sharpens your spiritual perception and ability to hear God’s voice in your own spirit. Waiting before the Lord in prayer and in study of the word are very important if you want to walk in God’s ways according to His thinking rather than according to your own natural reasoning.
As you pray to get divine direction, be constantly alert in your spirit to hear what the Lord will say to you. King David’s diligent search for God’s marching order before fighting the Amalekites paid off with victory over them and recovery of all.
Thought for the day: Be sure of God’s marching order before you act.
Song for the day: My God will lead me; my God will guide me.
Bible reading for the day: Luke 19-20
