HOLINESS REVIVAL MOVEMENT WORLDWIDE HOREMOW
DAILY DEVOTIONAL BY PASTOR PAUL RIKA INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR.
DATE: FRIDAY OCTOBER 2, 2026.
TOPIC: THE DANGER IN IGNORANCE OF THE TRUTH
TEXT: GENESIS 20:2-7
2. “And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
3. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
4. But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?.
5. Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6. And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7. Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.”
KEY VERSE: GENESIS 20:3 “But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.”
An ignorant man is like a man moving forward with his eyes closed. Dangerous! In law, Ignorance is not an excuse. Do you know that being ignorant of the law does not exempt you from the punishment due, when you break it?.
The saying, “Ignorance is no excuse of the law,” is clearly portrayed in the story of King Abimelech (Genesis 20:1- 18), who despite his claim of innocence and pureness of heart, was still subject to the judgment of God.
When confronted by God, this king, pleaded innocent due to his ignorance of the truth of the real matter. But did that exempt him from the judgment of God? No! He had committed sin, broken God's law by taking another man's wife and was entitled to death according to God's word.
The king argued his case with God, thinking he would be justified, as many today think God will understand with them because of their situation. He declared he had done this action in the integrity of his heart and innocence of his hands. His wrong action was due to misinformation and deceit of his informants, but that still did not exonerate him from God's judgment— the king was doomed to die.
Sins committed unknowingly is the commandment of God broken in ignorance. Like this king, we find many in our world today who religiously, out of sincere and innocent heart, follow after God, but in the same token are sincerely wrong and condemned by God Himself for non-compliance to His word and righteous standard.
Why? They were born into it and are dedicated followers of religions that denounce the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the Saviour. Yet, in their heart, they think they are serving God in the right way. Unless a man believes in JESUS he cannot have eternal life. Do you believe in and worship any other being, or creature apart from God and His Son Jesus Christ?
Thought for the day: Seek to know Jesus for the salvation of your soul.
Song for the day: See me through, Lord Jesus see me through (2x); there is a race I must run.
Bible reading for the day: Matthew 1-4
