TOPIC: PRAISE AND WORSHIP SHOULD BE SOLEMN AND INSPIRING

TEXT: PSALM 149: 1-8 

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 9TH

Key verse: Psalm 150: 1 “Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power.”
QUESTION: Many churches no longer clap hands for choruses but have replaced the old hymns with worldly songs and dances. Is it okay to use music band in church?
Answer: Use of drums in churches have turned worship to carnal emotions. Sinners are not sober to repent and are not convicted by the word but dance and laugh since music gives joy. So, do we remove the music band? That is an individual decision. It can be used if the right approach is applied; playing godly songs solemnly, worship will flow naturally to bless the gospel of Christ because music was used in the Old Testament. A minstrel played for Elisha and he got inspiration for prophecy. David played a harp solemnly and an evil spirit departed from Saul. 
Music was used profitably in the Old Testament but when it is used in the spirit of the world, it is evil. In fact, many people Jesus Christ appeared to in our day have talked about Jesus’ lamentation on the way music is used in our churches today. Jesus does not receive such praise and worship because you do not respond with your heart but with your flesh. The words of the songs are not even heard yet the words that I speak are spirit and life. It is the Spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing but now the words that are supposed to give life are not heard. It is the flesh that profits nothing that is in ascendency. So, there are no blessings or benefits. 
Let the music approach change. Those who feel they cannot control their people anymore may ban it and it will be wisdom since they cannot control the people. Some instrumentalists go from place to place and constitute nuisance to meetings. They play music for everything; announcement, prayer, preaching…. During prayers, he gives you music. That is mechanical inspiration. As preaching is going on, somebody is playing music. It destroys the solemnity of the word and turns everything to pleasure. So, let every church know the truth and take decision.
