For taking your time to study remain blessed.
June Sunday 30th
TOPIC: THE THRILLS AND ILLS OF THE INTERNET AND SOCIAL MEDIA
TEXT: Exodus 23:1-2
KEY VERSE: 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
The invention of the internet which now provides a platform for the social media to run is a major scientific breakthrough in our time and a fulfilment of biblical prophecy. Daniel 12:4, “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Truly, knowledge has increased greatly in our own time as the internet now provides the fastest means of communication on diverse platforms. No wonder the world has been described as a global village. It has become a veritable platform for fulfilment of prophecy on the Great Commission. Matthew 24:14, “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” The social media now provides the fastest means of evangelizing the world using the Facebook, WhatsApp, You Tube and other internet and social media platform. Right in the comfort of your room, you can deliver messages of salvation to hundreds and even thousands of people in their homes, at work, in the bus or at a relaxation spot. Messages are instant and come alive with graphics and photo attachments. Livestreaming also brings events live to distant and remote locations. It is a great thing the Lord is doing in our days.
Electricity is good but it can also kill if handled carelessly. So it is with the social media and the internet in general. The internet is an unrestricted information highway that is open to all kinds of people. As you send out information, you also have access to information supplied by other people. The information you get may be right or wrong. The message may be true or false. People who post on internet include the good and bad people, the believers and unbelievers, the wise and foolish. Wisdom demands that you are circumspect of what you browse on internet or read on social media. It is necessary to verify information before you share them; otherwise, you might become a partaker of another man’s sin. Abstain from all appearances of evil. Restrain yourself from sharing if you are not sure. It is better to err on the side of caution than to be hasty in sharing false information to the detriment of your soul. 1 Thessalonians 5:21, “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
Thought for the day: Do not be in a haste to share on social media what you have not verified.
Song for the day: Lord prepare me, a Sanctuary, Pure and Holy, tried and true, With thanks..
Bible reading for the day:
Job 19-20; Acts 9:23-43.
