What Is Worldliness? 

Thursday 7th May 

Text: 1 John 2: 15-17. 
Key Verse: So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8. 
Worldliness refers to the lifestyle and activities of sinful men living in this world which are invented, inspired and promoted by Satan, the god of this world. These things are contrary to the word, way, and will of God, and they defile, corrupt and damn human souls in hell fire. Worldliness is living according to the dictates of the world, which is pure carnality. These include the ‘love of money’. Many people make money their god. It is their reason for living. They do many evil things to get money. They disregard God's commands and righteous demands because of the drive for money in them. "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, Meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." 1Timothy 6:10-12. 
Worldliness also involves the ‘love of pleasure’. Sinful activities give corrupt people pleasure. Such as alcohol, sex, smoking, dancing, wickedness, worldly parties, etc. Forsake these things. The pleasure they give are transient and temporary. Many suffer untimely death because of seeking worldly pleasures. Worldliness also involves ‘ungodly dressing and adornment’. Many sinners in the world dress to entice others and promote sin. They seek to achieve bodily beauty, attraction and commendation. They use articles of body beautification such as perfume, earrings, chains, necklace, finger rings, nose rings, bracelets, beads, they perm or Jerry curl their hair, use artificial hair such as weave-on, hair attachment, eyelashes; they paint their face, bleach their skin, tattoo their body, use lipsticks and cortex. Some believers are deceived to use wedding ring which is not recommended in Scripture, rather, its use is evil and condemned by Scripture. These constitute filthiness to the body which the Lord commands us to cleanse ourselves of them. 

Thought For The Day: Worldliness is the opposite of Holiness.
