God Gives Good Attention To The Widows
Tuesday 19th May
Text: Isaiah 54:4-5
Key Verse: James 1:27 “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
Widowhood is a hard state for the woman. The Bible has said that the woman is a weaker vessel in the marriage. It is really hard with her when her husband, who is the head of the family, is permanently gone, never to come back again. Her husband, who was her strength, has left her alone to manage life and the family.
Who can live a successful and holy widowhood life, except God stands by her? The Lord is showing us this to let us know that widowhood and heaven are not an easy road. That is why he is giving attention to the widows! He is telling us, His righteous children, to give attention to the widows and care for them. Can you see what the Lord is saying? “To visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” ‘Visit’ here is not to go and spot yourself with the widows, mock and blame them. No. The Lord visited Sarah as He had promised. That means to bless them, visit and comfort them. Give them care and fellowship. Note that God is the Father of the fatherless and the husband of the widow. Your marker is your husband; the Lord of hosts is His name. Therefore, let your heart be comforted. Let your heart be peaceful. That is what God is saying. He is saying this to the holy Christian widow, not to a sinful widow.
It is painful to lose your legitimate husband, the husband of your youth, especially the one who loved you very much. But the love your Saviour, Lord, and Creator has for you is higher than the love your husband has for you.
Thought For The Day: To ‘Visit’ the fatherless and the widows means to remember and care for them.
Song For The Day: I know He loves me better whatsoever maybe I will follow Him.
