SCRIPTURAL ADVICE ON CRITICS AND CRITICISM SATURDAY FEBRUARY 4 TEXT: ACTS 23:1-5 Key Verse: “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” James 1:19 The society criticizes everybody, in fact men also criticize God but I encourage that you don’t allow criticism turn you down. May God grant you the grace to handle and manage criticism in a righteous manner in Jesus name. The right attitude towards critics and criticism is: (1) Purify your heart from loving criticism - James 4:8; (2) Keep your heart from partaking in another man’s sin. He loves backbiting and he is looking for you to drag into sin, please keep yourself - 1 Timothy 5:22; (3) Be slow to speak. Control your tongue - James 1: 19, 26. The Christianity of a talkative is in vain; (4) Be warned of the danger of idle words - Matthew 12:36-37; (5) Turn away from backbiters and unkind critics; (6) Verify your facts well before taking action or making comments - Proverbs 18:17; (7) Be afraid of criticizing God ordained minister - Acts 23:1-5. Therefore your role in critism as a Christian are as follows: (a) Listen to the facts carefully; (b) Judge righteous judgment; (c) Listen to the accused statement. Proverbs 18:17; (d) Consider facts from other witnesses; (e) Make diligent investigation or enquiry to be sure of the truth of the case; (f) Keep your comments until later if need be; (g) Learn from Jesus account on criticism. Conclusively, respond to critics and criticism this way: (1) Do not refused to be criticized - Matt 5:3a (2) Good criticism against you are the smiting of a friend - Proverbs 27:5,6 (3) Consider the criticism to see whether it is from God, sent to purify you and prefect you for all things work together for your good. (4) Humbly explain to your sincere accuser(s) the truth of the matter for your mutual understanding and peace. (5) Be quiet and calm in the face of arrogant critics. (6) Take the critic and criticism to God in prayer. (7) If you are guilty, seek to make peace if you are not, leave your case to God. Key verse: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" Isaiah 8:20. God has given revelations to many in our days and He is still in the business of doing that. The choice of these messengers is His sovereign will. Some of these revelations are written in books for all to read and some are shared verbally. There are scriptural facts to be understood on these revelation messages. They follow the pattern of scriptural revelations in the Holy Bible. Some are given in plain, simple and direct language, while some are given in pictorial language and figures of speech. The recipient of the revelation may be an ignorant person whose understanding is unfruitful, hence, he may not be capable to interpret the revelation received.
