HEAD COVERING AND MODERN CHRISTIANITY
TEXT: 1 Corinthians. 11:5-7
KEY VERSE: 1 Corinthians. 11:13 Judge in yourself: is it comely that a woman prays unto God uncovered?
Head covering by women has been the custom among Christians from the early church. The practice of women leaving their hair uncovered during service, when praying and preaching, came from the discovery of modern theologians and those in search of Christian liberty. These seek any blurred word, phrase or sentence in the Bible to establish their contrary doctrine.
1 Corinthians 11:5, But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is all as if she were shaven.
Here the woman is instructed to keep her head in a condition contrary to that of a man she should cover her head when praying or prophesying. Not doing so is dishonouring her head and disobeying the order set by God. Also not covering her head with a veil has the same implication as when she is shaven.
1 Corinthians 11:5-7
5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
6 For if the woman is not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
Those who are argumentative about this are carnal men/women who are not mindful of the holiness and perfection of believers and Christ’s Church. Live in obedience to God's word and perfection.
1 Corinthians 10: 31 – 32 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor the church of God.
