THE GODLY LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST’S DISCIPLE (PART 2)
TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:22-32
Key verse: Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance against such is no law.
The Spirit of Christ in a believer works out the fruits of righteousness and godliness. What is the evidence of Christ in a believer? Our key verses point out the things you need to see in your life to ascertain that you are changed:
• Love: Before you gave your life to Jesus, you have made efforts to love people, but all those efforts ended up in evil. Some people said that they love a sister or a brother, but they ended up carrying out the sin of fornication. That type of love is not the kind of love the Holy Spirit builds in a believer.
• Joy: As a Christian, you should not exhibit anger, bitterness and moody faces that make people away from you. Do not say that anger is in your family line. The Bible says that if you are in Christ, inherited anger must be put away.
• Peace: As a believer, you must pursue peace. The offences you see in people is because you keep seeking out for offences. Why must you wait for someone to apologize to you first? Why not go and apologize first? When you do this, it shows you are pursuing peace.
• Longsuffering: This means bearing suffering and allowing God to sort things out for you. A story was told of a woman who wanted to stop quarrels with her husband. She met a counsellor who gave her wax to secretly put into her mouth whenever her husband comes back to the house. Whenever the husband came with quarrels, she would not react to avoid the husband noticing it. The quarrels reduced since she did not retaliate.
• Gentleness: You must be gentle. Correct others in gentleness.
• Goodness: For someone to be a good person, it shows in his/her character. Give a smiling face as when Boaz spoke with Ruth even though he did not know her. By being good to people, they can be won over to Christ.
• Faith: Without faith, it is impossible to please God.
• Meekness: Ability to submit to the opinion of others when you see that there is light in it.
• Temperance: In everything, you must show control and overcome in love.
Thought for the day: Let the Holy Spirit develop the fruit of righteousness in you
Song for the day: I want you LORD to be satisfied with me…
