We can see in our text that Samuel was a child of promise. His mother got him through her fervent prayer to God. There was a covenant between Hannah and God: that if God would remember her and give her a man-child, she would give him unto the Lord all the days of his life. Many parents made this type of agreement with God, maybe as a result of a delay in childbearing.
